The Safe Way to Clean the Register
"Is it safe to use registry repair software?"
This question and others that are very similar are asked all the time on various forums around the Internet.
The short answer is "Yes – as long as you stick with reputable companies and products that have been tried and
tested".
It is an unfortunate truth that the bad guys have used registry repair software to try and install malware via a
Trojan, a program that gives access to the host machine, allowing them to steal files and information, and even
control the machine remotely.
For instance, there is a program called "WinFixer" that has been called one of the most poisonous pieces of
malware in circulation.
There are also some manufacturers whose software displays false warnings and urge the users to take "corrective
action". Last year Microsoft and the Washington attorney general took action against two such companies involved in
selling a program called Registry Cleaner XP.
Play it safe and don’t get caught.
Stick to the reputable companies whose software won't cause you problems, but will cure the registry errors you
are trying to fix.
